Fatty Patty's Wedding Cakes

We are soooooo spoiled. We live just around the corner from the best cake designer in the Florida panhandle! Renee Schaarschmidt owns Fatty Patty's Bakery and Cafe. From this cafe she produces the most incredible, edible art. We eat a LOT of wedding cake in our line of work, and I'd go so far as to say we have become cake connoisseurs. Renee has perfected building beautiful cakes which still taste amazing - not as easy as it sounds when you consider how heavy multiple tiers with fondant icing can be!

Now it's not something you might have thought about, but not all wedding cake designers are working from a commercial kitchen, many of them work from home. It's something you should definitely not only ask about, but ask to inspect. If they're doing this professionally, full-time, and they answer to a health inspector, they shouldn't blink an eyelid. If they waffle, or assure you their home is every bit as clean as one the county inspects on a regular basis - RUN!

Anyhoo, I didn't mean to go off on a tangent! Living so close to Fatty Patty's has it's perks like getting to try out the new "cake truffles" (YUM) and it's pitfalls, like the extra weight I've gained "testing" out new cake flavors and frostings! If you haven't already found a cake vendor, book a tasting with Renee, or ask her to overnight some cupcakes to you if you're out of town.
